PACKETVIDEO AND NEC ELECTRONICS PARTNER TO SHOW LOW-POWER, HIGH-PERFORMANCE MOBILE DIGITAL TV AT ‘EMBEDDED TECHNOLOGY 2006’ IN YOKOHAMA
PacketVideo’s DVB-H Software Solution Leverages the Power of NEC’s Application Processor
PacketVideo Corporation, a pioneer and innovator in bringing video to mobile phones, today unveiled a new Digital Video Broadcast for Handsets (DVB-H) software solution, using NEC Electronics’ Application processor, at the Embedded Technology 2006 (ET06) show. The software is being demonstrated in NEC Electronics’ booth, number B-32 at the ET06 show, which runs Nov. 15 –17 in Yokohama, Japan. This solution will also be shown at the ITU TELECOM WORLD 2006 show, Dec. 4 – 8 in Hong Kong.
pvTV Features + NEC Electronics’ platformOViA
PacketVideo’s pvTVTM solution for DVB-H demonstrates over-the-air streaming playback of DVB-H content, and includes program selection with PacketVideo’s electronic service guide, tuner control and a model user interface running on NEC Electronics’ platformOViATM (Open Value Interface for your Application). The platformOViATM platform provides system-on-chip optimization with high quality software enabling manufacturers of embedded software systems to reduce development time and introduce emerging technologies with ease. NEC Electronics took No. 1 market in share of 3G Digital baseband business in 2005 and gained world recognition for their emerging technology of the lower power consumption processor.
pvTV Solution Powers Highest Quality DVB-H to Meet End-User Expectations
PacketVideo’s pvTV solution provides faster time-to-market for video-enabled mobile phones. The pvTV solution facilitates efficient development, enables rapid porting and supports multiple operating systems (Linux®, Symbian™, RTOS). In addition, the pvTV solution offers high- performance codecs for mobile TV and enables concurrent decoding of more than one channel.
“It is PacketVideo’s aim to introduce the highest quality digital video solution as mobile TV is rolled out to the marketplace,” said PacketVideo Chief Executive Officer James C. Brailean, Ph.D. “That means leveraging the power and speed of NEC Electronics’ Application processor in the platformOViA framework to deliver video at the superior rate of 30 frames per second with excellent audio quality and low power consumption.”
“It is most rewarding for me to collaborate with PacketVideo, which has great experience in the multimedia software market as one of the platformOViA-powered solutions. Rapid adoption of mobile TV will rely upon a good user experience – quality video without draining the handset battery,” said Seiji Mitsuoka, vice president, System Software Development Operations Unit for NEC Electronics. “NEC Electronics’ Application processor economizes power for music and video functions, and makes a great companion to PacketVideo’s pvTV DVB-H software solution.”
“PacketVideo appreciates the opportunity to collaborate on such a practical and distinctive DVB-H solution with NEC Electronics, which has the number one 3G Digital baseband market share around the world,” said on such a practical and distinctive DVB-H solution,” said Kazunori Takagi, general manager of PacketVideo Japan. “NEC Electronics’ platformOViA provides an efficient and natural partner for our pvTV player.”
