PACKETVIDEO POWERS END-TO-END MUSIC SERVICE FOR ROGERS WIRELESS

PV’s MediaFusion Platform Provides Foundation for urMusic Service; New Dual Delivery Digital Rights Management Model Ensures Customers Can Enjoy Their Music on Handsets and PCs without Limitation

SAN DIEGO, CA (May 21, 2009)—PacketVideo (PV) announced today the launch of an end-to-end music service for Canada’s largest wireless network, Rogers Wireless. The new urMusic service – powered by PV’s MediaFusion™ technology – enables Rogers Wireless customers to play music tracks on mass market Java, Symbian and Windows Mobile handsets, PCs and other compatible consumer electronics (CE) devices without limitation or hassle.

Customers have the option of downloading music from the Rogers urMusic to their PCs, or directly over-the-air to their mobile phones. Marking a first for North American wireless operators, music content downloaded to the PC will incorporate two forms of digital rights management (DRM) including Windows Media DRM and PV’s SDC DRM.

This dual delivery model provides extensive benefits to Rogers Wireless customers, enabling them to download and play music on their PC, and on a wide variety of compatible consumer electronics devices throughout their home leveraging the popular Windows Media DRM format. PV’s technology works behind the scenes to match the appropriate DRM format to the customer’s device.

Customers can also create playlists on their PCs, which can be dragged and dropped onto the wireless device via a simple sideload, streamlining the synchronization process and giving users more control over their multimedia experience.

“PV worked to build a mobile music service that implements a new feature that greatly improves usability for subscribers with mass market devices,” said Steve Harris, director of product marketing, PV. “The service enables users with large libraries to synchronize their handsets directly with a PC without utilizing valuable bandwidth, and without concern to the DRM scheme employed on the PC. By incorporating a dual delivery DRM model, we are also ensuring Rogers Wireless customers can enjoy their music seamlessly in both a home and mobile environment.”

PV is also hosting the Rogers’ urMusic leveraging its MediaFusion music platform. MediaFusion, a white-label server-client platform for rich media applications, provides a comprehensive end-to-end solution for managing and merchandising content through rich Web, WAP and client interfaces. MediaFusion supports a wide variety of business models including á la carte, DRM-free, basic and enhanced subscription models.

Rogers Wireless is utilizing the MediaFusion platform’s DRM, automatic content ingestion and end-user license vaults, as well as the storefront for web and mobile access.
